My documents will reach attorney on Monday and he promised to file before July4.
Good lawyer...mine is taking 6-7 business days after submission atleast. Though, I did not fill any forms, I filled a questionairre and she will use that to fill the forms, that might delay things a little.

For me, it took around 1.5 months to receive the L2 approval notice. I filed online on 11/17/2009, mailed the hard copies of the documents (USPS Priority with delivery confirmation) the same day and received the L2 approval notice on 01/08/2010.
You can do a concurrent filing for EAD (I-765) along with L2 (I-539). You'd probably receive the EAD in another month (Generally it takes around 2 to 3 months).
I did the mistake of not filing for EAD concurrently. I filed for EAD the second week of Jan (after receiving the L2 approval notice), Received the notice for Biometrics appointment in 3 days, scheduled for mid-February. Unfortunately, the ASC Office was closed that day due to bad weather and I received a re-scheduled biometrics appointment for the 3rd week of March. So, I am yet to do the biometrics and hopefully I'd get the card 2-3 weeks after the biometrics is done if there are no more surprises.

FYI: Ours went to R Williams on July 2nd/NSC and there is thread on this forum if you are interested. We heard nothing. According to the posts, if any of R Williams cases had any action, they happened at other service centers. You person might be sending the submittals around as well if they were received on July 2nd. Hang in there :cool:

I am self-filing my i-131 application this week. Here are the briefs about status:
Current Status: Working on EAD, 485-pending (July 2007 Application)
I am dependent on my husband's green-card application. I used my 6 years of H1-B and started working on EAD about 6 months back. We never applied for AP before. My husband extended his H-1B beyond 6 years as I-485 is in process.
I am tryin gto find complete list of documents for the application. I am planning to travel on Caribbean Cruise on Feb 27, 2010. I hope to get my AP approved by then. To avoid any RFIs I wnat to make sure I am sending everything that is needed.
1. Completed form I-131
2. 2 Photographs (size 2x2) with white/grey background. Head height and eye positions as per USCIS guidelines.
3. Copy of EAD
4. Copy of I-797C (I-485 receipt)
5. Copy of Arrpoved I-140
6. Copy of all pages of Current passport

8. Copy of Driver's License
9. Marriage certificate (do I need this? Because I am am dependent on my Husband's 485 application)

As long as you have valid H1/H4 stamping in your passport you can travel in/out of the country freely.
H and L visa's are exempt from having AP as long as they have stamp in their passport.

Its so depressing & frustrating Not to see any movement in EB2 dates. For the past 3 months there had been no movement in the EB2 dates. Every time I open with a hope that something will happen but its the same shit each time.
Don't know when this wait for GC will be over, friend of mine who spend equal or may be less time as me in UK had now got the PR of UK, some who went to AUS, S'Pore got PR within 1 yr and same with Canada...but this US is the only sucking place with screwed up policies which benefits only the business and govts.

If you have not done this already you are supposed to call the USCIS and update them with your new address apart from sending a AR-11 regarding your address change.
Call customer service and ask them to give you an update and/or request a copy of your receipt notice. The notice goes to your moron lawyer and it takes about 4/5 business days to get a mail from USCIS once they send it out.

Sounds like someone at SSN office who may not know much about immigration.
If your I 797 came with attached I94, then you certainly can apply for SSN card. Just ask for supervisor at the SS office and talk to them.
If your I 797 does not have attached I 94 (meaning that you are still in H4 status), then I do not know for sure what the procedure would be to apply for SS card.

If your H1 approval notice did not come with the I-94 printed on it, then Canada is definitely an option to get it stamped, however its always better to get the first time stamping done in your home country.
You could also get your status changed while in US, but that would take additional fees and time. Speak to your H1-b sponsor about it.
btw, I would still check the approval notice to make sure that notice does not have an I-94 printed on the bottom of it. The I-94 printed at the bottom of the notice will have the same I-94 number as the one you have stapled to your passport, but will now have your status as H1 instead of H4.

There is place in the I-9 , Alien Authorized to work unitll, you need to provide the H1 information instead of the EAD information. Also instead of Alien#, you need to provide Admissible # which is on I-94 of new H1B. When some one submit I-9 form you need to show the Passport and you H1B copy. That way you are sure that you are using H1B.

There is nothing much IV can do to fix the inefficiency of the USCIS. How can IV help if USCIS cannot do its job in time? We can request them to work harder, thats all we can do.
Multi-year EAD/APs ( 3 years) are already part of the ongoing IV Admin fixes campaign. Having 3 year EAD/APs will fix some of the issues mentioned by you.

I guess we are here long on waiting for our green cards in the mean time I am suggesting we do a letter campaign to write in thousands to the USCIS director and lodge our protest about the problem the immigrant community is facing because of delays and irregularities in adjudication of EADs and APs. First and foremost things is a document which USCIS takes 6 months to Adjudicate is valid for 1 year which makes no sense.
Secondly USCIS should make efforts to make adjudicate it in not more than 2 months since we have to make travel plans etc. We should not be bounded by these documents. If for some reason it takes more than 2 months than 1 should able to get it via infopass, and a family member's death should not be the only reason to get the AP we are human beings and we have other social bondings too like marriages etc. I urge the core team to take steps to come forward a begin a campaign.... I guess this is the foremost need of the moment for 1000s of us..

My I-140 is approved.
But as per the August visa bulletin all the country visa numbers are U right. The August 17th is just an extension for the July visa bulletin rollback right?
You are right, if you apply now, you will get 3 yr extension. The extenion is based on whether your I-140 is approved and if the visa numbers are unavailable at the time of applying for extension.
