Agreed getting a GC is a painful process not to mention the bureaucracies that go with it.Agreed serious lobbying is necessary to bring about a change in the legislative system coz waiting for years to get ones GC is plain ridiculous.But the idea of REVERSE BRAIN DRAIN is just a myth.I am pretty sure that atleast 80% of the people are just average Joes whose intellect is just better than those blonde babes of the "Girl next door" reality series.We should be glad that we were raised in a foreign country lest would have replaced those poor old folks saying "welcome to wal-mart".So lets stop talking about reverse brain drain and atleast not try to replace those intelligent ones back home. We being here is best for our country and our economy.

Like I said, I did not catch the whole speech, but from what I heard, he was not talking completely against it, he mentioned that businesses need more H1B's and should be able to hire foreign talent.
He was mainly against abuse by big consulting firms (he gave out a statistic that 20K of the H1B went for 8 or 9 of the top consulting firms or something like that).
At least there is something happening..... we have only two weeks....... this may be our only chance this year to attach anything EB
Please follow all the different threads/news on this forum about Durbin and Grassley bills. There is nothing good there for H1B or EB visa provisions. Nothing good comes out of that, neither for employees (prospective or current) nor for employers...my 2 cents...

As per our lawyers, right now USCIS is in the process of entering our applications in their system (for date of receipt and such). There was a memo from USCIS saying that they will be done with the job of data entry by August 1.
From August 1, we can expect either rejection or acceptance of the actual application. The hope is that a court/congressional intervention before August 1 will change the USCIS action of rejection into acceptance.

I dont think S 1932 was any indication on where congress stands on our issue. S 1932 was a budget reconcilation bill and they had bigger fish to fry: Budget reconcilation. In order to garner support from their own party, republican leadership had to drop immigration and other non budget related things from 1932. Tancredo and Smith can only have fun as long as there is tough opposition to any bill. On bills of like PACE having 60 senators and hopefully majority on board, Tancredo, Byrd, Smith and cheerleaders like him may not have bargaining power they had during 1932

From what I understand, once the law comes in to affect, labor substitution will no longer be allowed so desi companies can't sell labors anymore. But the 2nd part of the puzzle was that approved labor will only be valid for X number of days (like 45 days as originally proposed) and I am not sure if this impacts the existing labors or not. 45 days expiration may only apply to new labors but no details has emerged yet so we'll have wait and see when the details come out. If it also applies to existing labors then we are home free because after the expiry date, all labors will automatically be canceled. Well, let's wait the for the fine details to come out first.
If this law does not apply to existing labors, we will still be in the same situation. BTW, what is a desi company. How come it can sell labors? Is selling labor legal?

I think it is a good think to respond to the people who offended you, but it is naive to think something will be done just by CNN getting a letter with thousands of signatures.
If you feel you are offended or prejudiced, why not pursue a lawsuit for defamation/moral damages? I think this is perfectly fit for a judge to decide. Only this way the small can affect the big.
Or, why not try to appear on the show and talk against the lies Tancredo said? I bet Lou Dobbs would love that, as it would increase audience.
A petition like this, directly to CNN, is, in my point of view, a waste of time and effort. It's not going to be read and will be thrown into the trash can as soon as it is opened there.
